Artist Statement

Not gonna lie. I about gave up doing art because I am a perfectionist. I was so consumed with making things just right, but I always seemed to find flaws. I gave up painting for about 10yrs. I revisited creating, but in a much different way. I started painting abstractly just after losing my child, Braxton. He was stillborn, and I was very angry. I never connected with abstract work prior to this pain that my heart felt. My work started off very harsh, but eventually moved into something softer & freeing. I feel connected with my creator as I’m painting. I’m inspired by life, love & humanity. More importantly, I’m inspired by the love story between all of heaven and earth & I’m captivated by creation. I’ve seen tears of joy flow when people look at my work. I’ve seen tears of pain being released as well. One of the most memorable moments was captured by a friend at one of my art shows. A little girl, maybe 2-3yrs old, standing alone, had stopped and was in complete awe of one of the pieces that hung high above her on the wall. What she saw & what she felt, I’ll never know, but it so blessed me when I saw this image. That look, will always be one of the reasons as to why I do what I do & it keeps me coming back for more.
